Wer ist eigentlich David Böhm? Und was malt/mag er fĂŒr KinderbĂŒcher? Drei Fragen an den KĂŒnstler aus Tschechien.

– How did you start to illustrate books for children (and young people)?

I am not a typical illustrator (if something like typical illustrator exist). I was study the fine art and I work like a visual artist mostly with drawing. And usually with my colleague Jiƙí Franta you can see our website – http://www.bohmfranta.net And because the drawing I love in many approach, the illustration is one of them. And for example the book „Head in head“ is based from my other non illustration project, where I make every day some portrait of head. And during this work I have a many ideas of make some drawing specially for book… So if I have some reason to make something where the ideal space for presentation is book than I become illustrator.

Ich bin kein typischer Illustrator (falls es so etwas wie einen typischen Illustrator ĂŒberhaupt gibt). Ich habe Bildende Kunst studiert und ich arbeite wie ein bildender KĂŒnstler, zumeist in Bildern. Und normalerweise gemeinsam mit meinem Kollegen Jiƙí Franta (unsere Homepage http://www.bohmfranta.net). Ich liebe die unterschiedlichen Maltechniken, und die Illustration ist eine davon.
Das Buch „Kopf im Kopf“ beispielsweise basiert auf einem meiner anderen Projekte, fĂŒr das ich jeden Tag eine oder mehrere Kopfstudien anfertige. Und wĂ€hrend dieser Arbeit hatte ich die Idee fĂŒr einige Bilder, fĂŒr ein Buch … Wenn ich also das GefĂŒhl habe, das die beste PrĂ€sentationsform fĂŒr etwas ein Buch ist, werde ich zum Illustrator.

– Which of your books should everybody be familiar with (and why)?

Without collaboration on other books I work on three owns book. 1 – comic book with African fairy tail The Quiet Hippopotamus 2- our own project Nulla dies sine linea and 3 – mentioned Head in head.

Neben meiner Mitarbeit an den BĂŒchern anderer, habe ich drei eigene BĂŒcher: einen Comic mit einem afrikanischen MĂ€rchen „Das ruhige Nilpferd“, unser Projekt „Kein Tag ohne Linie“ und das erwĂ€hnte „Kopf im Kopf“.

– Which theme or motif would you love to work on in a children’s book some day?

I am not sure in this moment but I am not afraid that the ideas did come…

Ich bin mir gerade nicht sicher, aber ich habe keine Angst, dass mir die Ideen ausgehen …
