Wer ist eigentlich Kätlin Vainola? Und was macht/mag sie für Kinderbücher? Drei Fragen an die Autorin aus Estland.

– How did you start to write books for children (and young people)?

I started writing for children when I was pregnant with my first son. I started to think about my childhood and read children’s books again. I got an idea to mix together my own childhood stories and my husband’s childhood stories, because we both lived with grandparents. I added some fiction and wrote a book about A boy who lives with HIS granny.

– Which of your books should everybody be familiar with (and why)?

I usually like my last book . The three last books that I have written „Lift“, „Where is love?“ and „Sonja and cat“ are the kind of books that can be interesting for all ages. And there are beautiful pictures from Kertu Sillaste and Ulla Saar in them.

– Which theme or motif would you love to work on in a children’s book some day?

I ´ve written really different books. Nature books, picture books, detective stories etc. So I like to try different themes. At the moment I am writing a book about toys, and then i would like to discover some sci-fi motifs for my next book.
